Returning enemies in the upcoming game include the sword-wielding Yokai and the Nurikabe. This includes a brutish Yokai that can take on a cyclone-like form, a giant black-scaled serpent, a hammer-wielding demon with red hair, a giant slug with an old man’s head, and a horde of infant-like monsters that swarm the player. It uses summoned projectiles resembling swords to damage enemies from a distance.Ī host of new and returning enemies were also included in the trailer. The third transformation seems to specialize in ranged attacks, likely focusing on onmyoji or magic abilities. Its attacks are reminiscent of those when using dual swords.
The second transformation uses twin daggers and appears to focus on mobility and constantly pressuring opponents. The first has a similar design to the various hulking Yoki frequently encountered in the original game. Three different Yokai transformations were featured in the trailer. The player’s appearance changes to resemble powerful Yokai and they gain new abilities in battle. In Nioh 2’s latest trailer, the Yokai Shift transforms not only the equipped weapon, but the users themselves by seemingly fusing with their Guardian Spirit. This state empowered the player’s equipped weapon to unleash devastating attacks on enemies. In the first game, players were able to harness the power of their chosen Guardian Spirit to activate their Living Weapon. The axes can also be hurled at enemies to damage them from afar.Īrguably the most anticipated addition to the upcoming game is the new Yokai Shift mechanic. Because of this, they function similarly to dual swords from the first game. The weapons allow for quick and agile strikes, including a jumping attack, to lay waste to enemies while avoiding possible counterattacks. The first game also limited character customization to just being able to change William’s hairstyle and facial hair.Ī new weapon, the dual axes, was also seen in the trailer. This differs from the original game where only the main character William was playable, excluding unlockable skins of various unique NPCs that replaced the player’s model. Some gameplay in the closed alpha demo further revealed complete character customization similar to games from the Souls series.
Nioh 2’s latest official game footage confirms the option to play as either a male or female character. The exclusive demo runs from May 24 to June 2 on the Playstation 4. The closed alpha trailer for Nioh 2, the sequel to Team Ninja’s samurai action role-playing game, showcased more footage of new gameplay features to be implemented in the awaited title.
